What does identifying (or not identifying) with the BGLTQ community mean to you?

Everything!

How, if at all, has your identity shaped your academic and/or professional journey?

I'm not sure it has. I work in IT. I'm more aware that as a woman in IT I often feel like I get the message that I don't fit in, don't belong, and am not supposed to be there. I had the great good fortune of having a gay boss many years ago when I was coming out and that made it very safe for me.

What advice would you give to yourself when you were an undergraduate?

Don't be afraid to seek out the queer students group.

What support can you provide to current undergraduate BGLTQ students who are hoping to enter into your field?

I love to mentor people. I'd be happy to help any students I can.

What are your areas of expertise?

As an undergrad, I got a BA in Engineering and Applied Sciences, but took courses all across the liberal arts. In IT: linux, shell scripting, system administration I also went to Harvard Divinity School where I studied the religions of India, Unitarian Universalism, and Cross Cultural Counseling.
