What does identifying (or not identifying) with the BGLTQ community mean to you?

My BGLTQ identity is a source of joy, growth, and ambiguity for me. I find strength in connecting with people who have the audacity to live authentically, challenge social and cultural norms, and create radically loving space for all identities. I am proud to be part of the BGLTQ community.

How, if at all, has your identity shaped your academic and/or professional journey?

Understanding that BGLTQ folks are often some of the most marginalized and vulnerable has shaped how I approach environmental health and justice.

What advice would you give to yourself when you were an undergraduate?

Don’t let the fear of what people MIGHT think hold you back from exploring your identity. What you think and feel is more important. Take advantage of campus resources for BGLTQ students. Safe spaces exist and will welcome you with open arms. All you have to do is show up.

What are your areas of expertise?

Environmental health, climate change and sustainability, human rights and humanitarian studies
