About the Office of BGLTQ Student Life
The Office of BGLTQ Student Life (QuOffice) serves as a central resource for bisexual, gay, lesbian, transgender, queer, and questioning (BGLTQ) students at Harvard College. Through our work, we foster the inclusion, affirmation, and celebration of all BGLTQ identities and expressions. We strive to create a community where BGLTQ students can thrive and where all students are well-equipped to engage knowledgeably and compassionately regarding gender and sexuality.

About the Internship
The Undergraduate Interns (QuInterns) are currently enrolled Harvard undergraduate students who work up to 13 hours per week for the Office of BGLTQ Student Life (“QuOffice”). Interns are ambassadors for the Office; ensuring that their fellow students have accurate and timely information about QuOffice programming and services, and communicating the needs of the BGLTQ student community back to Office staff. Programming in the Office is very often driven by the interns, meaning that Office-sponsored events are planned, implemented, and evaluated by the QuInterns. As part of their role, QuInterns help direct students toward campus and local resources, publicize events over relevant house and organizational email listservs, and complete administrative and operational duties as assigned by the Assistant Director. As student leaders, the QuInterns may also represent the interests of BGLTQ students on panels, committees, and working groups across the College. Undergraduate Interns report to the Assistant Director, or Director as needed.

Expected Time Commitment:
10-13 hours per week during the 13 week fall and spring semesters (no hours during semester breaks, reading period, finals period, and the summer)

Wage: $16.00 per hour

As part of weekly hours, each QuIntern:

  1. meets one-on-one with supervisor for at least 30 minutes
  2. Attends mandatory all-team meetings for at least 1.5 hours per week
  3. Meets for any project teams they are a part of in the QuOffice
  4. Staffs space during open hours 12-5 M-F in the QuOffice

Apply to join our team!

About the process:
Meetings and interviews are the candidates’ opportunity to get to know from current QuInterns and staff what it is like to work for the QuOffice and imagine themselves as a part of the team. Every applicant will meet informally with two current QuInterns. This meeting is intended to give applicants a way to learn about working as a QuIntern first-hand, as well as meeting their colleagues and potential coworkers.

Finalists will be invited to interview with the Director, an opportunity for candidates to demonstrate and speak to their life experiences and skill sets beyond the written application. Hired interns meet one-on-one weekly with their supervisor during the academic year; it is important that candidates meet with a member of the QuOffice full time staff to ensure that candidates are comfortable with how the QuOffice operates.

Application Timeline Estimate (subject to change):
• Sunday, April 7th, 11:59 PM —Written Application closes
• On a rolling basis through April 12th— Completed applications are read; applicants contacted for a 30 minute meeting with two current QuInterns.
• April 15th - April 18th— All applicants contacted with next steps; final candidates will schedule and complete a 20-minute interview with the Director
• Week of May 1st —Offers made to QuInterns; hiring paperwork conversation started
